Olga Akulova’s style features a kind of a stylish minimalism that looks both luxurious and contemporary. So is her new project – an apartment overlooking the river Dnieper in a luxury residential building in Kiev. It is located in the newly built neighbourhood Novopecherski Lypki – a huge residential structure that covers more than 19 hectares in the business centre of Kiev. Built for business class clients, the neighbourhood is full of green areas, has its own well-developed infrastructure and high-rise buildings with over 30 floors and apartments, some with the impressive size of over 200 square meters.

One of these apartments is what I’m sharing with you today. The owner has lived in Spain, and now divides his time between Ukraine and Latvia. He turned to Olga Akulova with the desire to create a modern home for himself as a perfect place to party and relax. His requirement is for an open space with high windows and concrete ceilings.

Another wish of the client is for the home to not require a lot of maintenance, which led to the integration of a Smart House system, which includes a remote control (through a tablet) of the temperature in the apartment, the security system, the lighting and the television.

At an early stage of the project was decided the kitchen will be Natural Skin by Minacciolo – a model, designed specifically with the idea of modern open-space apartments without walls. The kitchen, along with the beautiful minimalist fireplace from Waco & Co, is now one of the focal points of this beautiful apartment. There is a high storage cabinet and a kitchen island with a metal top where all the preparation of the food is situated. The dining table is next to it, making food preparation and eating a socializing experience. I personally love the beautiful copper chairs Real Good Chair by BluDot, which bring a warm accent and also age quite beautifully (as is usually the case with this metal).

The low seating area is divided into two parts – the first is placed around the fireplace and the second is next to it in front of the TV set. The first one is the social part, so it also includes two Butterfly chairs, the second is designed for lounging and relaxing. Behind the wall with the TV set, lies the dressing area – an entire wall, leading to the bedroom, separated only by a glass wall from the other space of the living area.

The standing wooden bookcase separates the living area from the relax zone. There is a small work place there, and a sliding glass door that can separate the bedroom from the rest of the space when needed.

An essential element in the bathroom is the beautiful wooden bath, a model designed in 1999 by Benedini Associati for Agape, called Woodline; and a green wall next to it. The wall is watered with an automatic system that is turned on from the laundry room, and it creates a truly unique atmosphere in this room.
